AIR FORCE ONE

We finally arrived in Fulton, MO in the middle of the afternoon. It was a fairly easy trip and just another day of travel. The terraine was much like it is in the midwest – large open farm land with a few scattered trees. As we were driving down Interstate 64 approaching the Illinois border, we noticed a large aircraft coming in fast and low. We were surrounded by corn fields with not a single runway in sight. We could only think this had to be an emergency landing of a commercial jet! The plane was getting ready to fly right over our truck! We were reaching for our videocamera (I know that sounds creepy) when the lettering on the side of the plane came into focus – UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. As we looked behind us, we could see the tower of Scott Air Force Base and realized that the President of the U.S. was getting ready to land only a few miles from us. Now, regardless of your political leanings and persuasions, it’s always a very cool thing to be that close to the President…and Air Force One just flew right over the top of our truck in the middle of Illinois! It’s just another event to add to the list of things we’ve witnessed on the road…and we’ve seen a lot of stuff! We were kicking ourselves that we didn’t get to the videocamera in time. The footage would have made a great addition to our next DVD!
