It’s been a really long day today. After the show in North Carolina and driving back to Virginia, I caught an early morning flight to the west coast. My travel plans took me from Lynchburg to Charlotte, NC – connecting to a flight to Phoenix – and finally to a flight to Long Beach where I arrived at about 6pm EST. So, about 12 hours of airplanes and airports today.
I almost missed my connection in Phoenix. I’m working diligently trying to get some things done on my computer when I realized that there was only one other person at the gate for a 1:33pm departure. When I checked the monitors again, they had made a gate change but didn’t announce it. AND the gate was in a different concourse! I had less than 10 minutes to run to the flight. As I ran down the concourse, I heard the announcer say, “This is the final boarding call for US Air flight to Long Beach. At the conclusion of this announcement, the doors will be closed.”
I ran as fast as I could and made it to the gate just as they closed the doors. They took my carry on bag and let me in. Once I arrived in Long Beach, I went to pick up my rental car. They gave me the contract with the location identity and a set of keys. I dragged all my luggage to the car only to discover they had given me the wrong set of keys! All the way back to the counter, luggage in tow, they gave me the new keys. The guy was nice enough to go pick up the car for me and pull it around.
I arrived at the hotel and my day began. It’s 2:32am EST right now as I finish this entry. I’m going to bed. Good night.
