We’ve been driving for almost three days and we have finally arrived in New York City. Our performance is tomorrow at the Brooklyn Center for the Arts. No matter how many times you come to NYC, there is no way put into words the energy of this place. We pulled off the BQE (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) onto Atlantic Avenue to get to our hotel. We drove right through the middle of Brooklyn – from one side to the other! We had the chance to experience the sights and sounds of the city on this jaunt through Brooklyn. Firetrucks, police sirens, traffic cops, ethic restaurants – only a few of the amazing elements that make NYC the greatest place on earth!

It’s tough to find a hotel in the city that can handle the size of the rig so we ended up out by JFK airport. It will mean leaving here in the morning at 6:30am to get to the venue on time but we had no other options.

The show is going to be an abbreviated version of our full production. While we do a 2 hour show, they only wanted this performance to go 1 hour. Unfortunately, cutting the length of the show doesn’t really cut back on the set up or tech. We still have to get up the backdrops, intelligent lighting, focus the fixtures, write the cues, tech the show and perform!

After three days of traveling, we’re going to have a nice quiet night in the hotel. Tomorrow will be a long day: hotel departure – 6:30am; theatre arrival – 7am; load in – 7:30am; set up – 8am – 12noon; showtime – 1pm; load out – 2:30pm. Who knows how long it’s going to take us to get out of the city on Saturday afternoon. Tne New York Marathon is Sunday (11/6) and they are closing down some of the roads and bridges in preparation for the race. We hope to be at our next stop before 6pm. We have another early day on Sunday at the Lycian Centre for the Arts.

I’ll write more about the Brooklyn performance tomorrow night.
