Cindy says that performing has always been in her blood, but not necessarily magic although she was fascinated by the Doug Henning and David Copperfield television shows. While in high school, she participated in productions, took voice lesson and began to learn how to handle herself in front of people. Naturally a quiet, shy person, she believes her desires outweighed her fears and she became accustomed to being in the spotlight.

When she went to college she received a vocal scholarship and was, again, thrust onto the stage. She joined a vocal performance group which performed in many interesting places and for many amazing people. She met senators, congressmen, and celebrities, performing on television productions here and abroad, performed for the Canadian parliament, had tea with the Speaker of the House, and performed for President Reagan's Victory Celebration in the early 80's.

After college, she moved to Dallas, Texas where she worked for the Zale Corporation as a diamond consultant. Her boyfriend at the time had a roommate named Kevin Spencer, who "did a little magic." She began to help Kevin perform while Stan, her boyfriend, did sound and production. Eventually her relationship with Stan ended and they went their separate ways, while remaining good friends. Cindy continued to help Kevin and says, "we became great friends!" They married in 1983.

Kevin had been pursuing his dream before they married and, Cindy says: "We continued afterwards. We began with a small show, about an hour long, no frills, just good magic, and persevered for five years." The show was called "The Magic of Kevin Spencer," and Kevin was the focal point. Cindy was secondary, much preferred it that way, and not sure just where she fit into the big picture. She was basically in a "supporting role" making an occasional appearance on stage and managing minimal responsibilities. This changed forever on November 7, 1988.

They were leaving town to do a short tour in the Carolinas, and were in two separate vehicles, one to drop off for repairs, the other to travel in. While waiting at a stop light, the vehicle that Kevin was in was rear-ended by a speeding semi who had entered the highway from a ramp and didn't realize the traffic was stopped. Cindy was in front of Kevin in the other vehicle. As the light turned green and she started through the intersection, the 19-wheeler slammed into Kevin's vehicle.

By this tragic circumstance, they were forced to make changes. Kevin could no longer "carry" the show alone. Cindy had to become a key player in the show and things were never the same again. "Forged into a team, we worked on routines that balanced us equally....illusions that showcased us both. We changed presentations to accommodate limitations. We started to form ideas on philosophy and presentation. We studied stagecraft and sought guidance from theatre professionals. And, we began to be 'a team.'"

The Spencers are now entering their 20th professional year. Cindy is the first woman to be recognized by the International Brotherhood of Magicians and receive her own feature and cover on the oldest magic magazine in the world, The Linking Ring. She sums it all up this way, "It's not our goal to have a show in Vegas. We choose to pursue our dreams on our own terms, do our best in every situation, and honor the art that we love. So far, this has been an incredible ride and the best is yet to come!"
