We left Taipei this morning for the airport at 8am for a 10:30am flight back home. This has been the longest day. Somewhere between Taipei and Chicago, hours started to stretch. We made a quick stop in Narita (Tokyo, Japan) for about a 3 hour layover then picked up our next flight to Chicago O’Hare International Airport. This is one of the busiest airports in the world and nothing here is ever on time. Today, we had a tailwind from Taiwan and made it in an hour earlier that scheduled…which means instead of a 4 hour layover, we have a 5 hour layover! That’s a long time in an airport. We still have one more flight from here to Roanoke, then a one hour drive back to Lynchburg.
As it would happen, our flight to Roanoke was delayed about 5 times. Instead of leaving at 7:36pm, we finally left the gate at 8:15pm and then sat on the runway for another 40 minutes. There was no way we were going to be able to get to Roanoke in time to pick up the rental van and drive home. I called Chris Judd to let him know that we wouldn’t be home tonight (the Judds are taking care of Carter).
When we touched down and came down the escalator to baggage claim, there was Chris waiting for us! He drove over so he could be there to pick us up at 11:50pm! What a great friend!! It was so good to see him. I’m sure we talked a million words a minute on the ride back to Lynchburg. We picked up Carter and were in bed by 1:30am.
Wow – what a long day January 3, 2007 was!
