As I write this, it’s very early on Saturday and I’m sitting in the parking lot of the Walmart Super Center in Huntingdon hoping to get the tire fixed on the trailer. The guy has just come out to tell me that he doesn’t want to fix it BUT, if I get the “boss lady” to say to do it, he will. So, I talk to the “boss lady” whose real name is Jody and she says, “Fix it.” So he does. I’ve got to head back to the hotel and pick up everyone else so we can head to Frostburg!

BREAK

We’ve made the trip over mountains and through valleys and have finally arrived in Frostburg. The scenery was really beautiful (the trees are changing colors) but I had no idea western Maryland was so mountainous.

Rob Weber, cultural events technical director, met up just outside the main entrance to Frostburg State University. We got backed into the loading area and started hauling stuff inside.

This is Family Weekend at FSU and we are the final attraction of the evening. They are expecting a good crowd but the show is starting a little later than we normally do – 8:30pm. I know people will be a little tired but I’m hoping we can keep their attention with the magic!

The set up day went very well. They had a huge group of people to help load in. The crew did an amazing job of setting up a large portable stage complete with curtains and lighting rigs to simulate a proscenium stage theatre. I was really impressed! I can’t imagine how much time and work went into making this possible. And the entire staff here was so accommodating. There was no request that we made that they said, “Impossible.”

BREAK

The crowded started rolling in around 7:45pm and you could sense the excitement in the air. Even though we knew they were going to be a little tired, they were going to be a good crowd. We had great volunteers and the Brick Wall continues to get great reactions from the audience.

This was a really wonderful day, working with some incredible people. A big thank you to Tammy Wiley and the University Program Council for all their hard work…and to Bill Mandicott, Rob Weber, Jesse and the entire gang of Cultural Events Staff. Without all their hard work, this show would never have been a reality!

We’re going to sleep in on Sunday and head home for a couple of days.
