Our second day in Greensburg started off great – no snow! They were calling for 1-3 inches of snow during the night but it didn’t arrive. We were all very thankful. Greensburg isn’t a very flat town – lots of hills – and driving 65 feet of truck up and down snow covered hills was not the way we wanted to start the day. No snow – good morning!
We were at the Palace Theatre around 11am, welcomed by Kate and the crew. This is a beautifully restored vaudeville house – murals on the walls, domed ceiling, great decor. I’ve said it many times but it is always such a pleasure to perform in these spaces – the history of magic is so rich in these historic venues.
Our wonderful hosts – Linda and Theresa – made us feel very welcome. And Kate, the technical director, and her crew did an outstanding job working with us in getting the show up and ready to go. This entire crew was so willing to get in there and work which makes our day go so much easier. A big thanks to everyone – Kate, Tink, Mindy, Dave, Alex, Ryan and Todd.
Lots of new toys for us today too! We used two new hazers in the show tonight – very new, like the only two of their kind currently in the U.S. Serial numbers 1 and 2 on the machines! The remaining stock won’t be in the country until late April so Cindy is having a good time breaking them in and learning the best way to get the most of out them. As for me, I got a new piece of scenery today! It was delivered from the scenic studio and this was the first time we put it in the air. It’ll take me a few shows to get the lighting on it just right but it’s going to be a great addition to the theatrical elements of the production.
We had a really great audience tonight with some memorable volunteers. And I always enjoy meeting them and hearing their thoughts after the show. One of the great treats of the evening was being able to spend some time with the area magicians, clowns and performers. We had a large group of them attend the show and David arranged for Cindy and I to meet with them separately after the lobby meet & greet. Everyone was so gracious. It was a very pleasant time for us and we appreciated their support, both by attending the show and staying to visit afterwards.
We’ll remember our time in Greensburg – the Palace, the People and the Performers were all so warm and friendly. We hope we get to come back!
