We slept in this morning after such a big day yesterday. We left the hotel around 11am and took the Tube up to Portobello Road. This is the world’s largest antique market – and it’s right here in London. Cindy has a favorite place in Lynchburg also called Portobello Road where she buys wonderful candles and unique things for the house. It is inspired by the shops on this road. It was a very relaxing day walking through the streets, looking through the various shops, and enjoying the street vendors and food! And Cindy picked up a few things as well.
After spending the afternoon exploring Portobello Road, we made our way back to Earl’s Court and to our hotel. We relaxed for a bit and then decided to Tube over to Covent Garden. We had intended to visit here on Sunday or Monday but never made it to this Market. This has been a popular London hangout for over 600 years but it was revamped in the 1970s into a large pedestrian district where jugglers, magicians and mimes perform next to shops, pubs, and restaurants. We wandered through the area and watched a few performers. We found a great little sidewalk cafe where for 3 pounds, I ate the biggest plate of lasagna (yup, I’m not a pasta eater but I was starving!).
After dinner, we walked around the area only to find that many of the shops were closing at 7pm! Since we were leaving for Paris in the morning, we decided to go back to the hotel, pack out suitcases, and relax for the evening. We’ve had a great three days in London – an amazing experience and beautiful city! Check out all the pictures on FLICKR.
