The day started early again – we’re trying to make good time – and we were on the road around 7:30am. We left Twin Falls, ID and arrived in Longmont, CO around 8:30pm. For the most part, the day was uneventful with the exception of the beautiful scenery of western Wyoming!

We had no idea that we were driving at such high elevations, between 6500 feet and 7000 feet. We really didn’t see mountains so it didn’t feel like we were driving at those heights. None of that caused us any problems until we stopped in Laramie, WY to take a break by walking around the local Walmart SuperCenter. When we left Laramie, we started up a major huge “hill” going from about 6500 feet to almost 9000 feet in just a couple of miles!! Remember those warning lights and buzzers I wrote about in Death Valley?? Well, almost at the top of this grade the buzzers and warnings went off again. We were overheating and reaching the temperature limits of the engine. We pulled off the interstate and waited it out for about 30 minutes. We slowly started up the grade, reached the summit and it was smooth sailing from there – no more temperature problems!

It’s good to be out of that truck…but tomorrow, it’s another long day!
