What a day of travel!! This wasn’t supposed to be a long day for us. It turned out to be a VERY long day of driving. We left Kingman, AZ around 10:30am. I expected to be in Bishop, CA by 5pm. The drive through the Mojave Desert wasn’t bad at all. It’s really very beautiful in a unique sort of way. We made a couple of stops – one at the Desert Information Center but it was closed; the other at a Dairy Queen in Ludlow. There’s NOTHING more there than this Dairy Queen and a 76 gas station. It was PACKED! I imagine this is one of the most profitable Dairy Queen’s in the country! After driving a couple of hours through the desert, ice cream sounds very good!

We finally arrived in California and made it to Barstow. This is another town in the middle of nowhere so EVERYONE stops here. There’s tons of restaurants, gas stations and truck stops. It actually took us an hour to get fueled up and back on the road again. We jumped onto Highway 58 to make the 32 mile journey toward Four Corners. We would pick up Highway 395 to Bishop here. The traffice was HORRIBLE – so bad that it took 2 hours to drive 32 miles! What an amazing waste of time…and, at this point, we’re about 3 hours behind in our driving schedule. So much for making Bishop at 5pm!

Once we arrived at Four Corners, we took advantage of the SUBWAY there and grabbed some food. It was already 5pm and we still had 180 miles to go. The road to Bishop was a good one. The scenery was spectacular…and, once the sun set, I could barely make out the huge snow covered mountains all around us, peaks reaching toward the stars that were so brilliant in the night sky. We finally arrived in Bishop around 9:45pm, much later than we had expected.

The local newspaper has a very nice article in it with photographs promoting the show on Monday night. I received an email for the Presenter saying that they’ve already received lots of calls and are expecting a good crowd. We hope so….I’ll keep you posted!
