As we drove toward Indiana today, Cindy had the idea to stop in Point Pleasant, WV. If you’ve ever seen The Mothman Prophecies or the recent Sci-Fi Investigates Mothman, you’ll know that Point Pleasant has a strange and spooky history.

We pulled into this small town, parked and began to walk Main Street. It’s a quaint little town with some interesting things to see and do. We went by the Mothman Museum but it didn’t open until 12noon…so we headed over to the statue and took a few pictures. It was FREEZING here today and there was this little coffee shop on the corner. We walked in and ordered something hot to drink. Then Bobby, the proprietor of this little establishment (gift shop and coffee corner) started to entertain us with the stories of the town. He talked to us about the Mothman (which I videotaped and will have a brief segment ready for viewing on the DVD) and all the strange encounters that happened in the late 1960’s. (check out www.Mothmanlives.com)

He also told us about Chief Cornstalk (and his son Tecumseh). For me, this was a much more interesting story because it has it’s roots in “real” history and not just “the legend.” There is a monument built there for the Chief that has a history and story of its own.

This is a place I’d like to stop again…..
