I picked up the truck and trailer yesterday afternoon from Tommy.  Wow, did we need some repairs!  Turns out that steering problem was another easy fix but serious – I had lost the power steering pump!  No wonder some of those sharp turns into loading docks were getting tough!!  The oil leaks were fixed by replacing a couple of lines; oil change and lube; and he adjusted the brakes.  The trailer was a disaster!  He had to replace the entire wheel unit – bearings, brake assembly, pads, shoes, plates, etc in EVERY wheel on the trailer.  He packed everything with grease, fixed the wiring, and adjusted the brakes.  Good as new!

He told me that I was going to need new tires before this trip so I made the call to Ken over at Carpenter Tires.  Keith and I picked up the truck/trailer from Tommy and drove it directly over to Carpenters.  We dropped it off there.  Turns out I had a screw in one of the new trailer tires but they were able to get it out without any damage…and four new tires on the rear of the rig.

It’s amazing how well a truck will handle with new brakes and good tires!  This should be an easy drive today – at least for the truck.  We’re heading up through Washington, D.C. and then over to Dover.  Maybe about 6.5 hours if we don’t hit too much traffic.
