We finally arrived in Phoenix, AZ around 3pm yesterday. I have to admit it was nice to turn onto Interstate 17 South – we’d been on Interstate 40 West for 4 days! The scenery here is absolutely breath-taking. I can’t really put it into words that would describe it adequately. As we left Gallup, NM yesterday morning and crossed into Arizona, the scenery almost started changing immediately.
And speaking of entering Arizona…I pulled through the Port of Entry and was asked to park – again. They asked for my registration, which I provided immediately, and they gave me a questioning look and asked, “Is this all you have?” I responded with, “That’s all they give me in Virginia.” “Please pull over, park and come inside,” they commanded.
When I went inside, the person in charged asked for my registration. I told her that they took it at the window and she said, “Oh, they must be writing you a citation for being overweight.” To which I responded, “I hope not!” We both laughed, she gathered my paperwork and gave it all to an agent. As it turns out, Arizona requires anyone weighing more that 26,000 pounds to have a “temporary Arizona registration.” I also had to buy a “Fuel Permit” to buy diesel in the state without paying the “use tax.” I think I paid more for the “Fuell Permit” than I would if I paid the use tax! In about 30 minutes, I was on my way to Flagstaff slowly climbing in elevation to a bit over 6,000 feet. The journey down Interstate 17 South was literally DOWN – falling from 6,000 feet to about 1,000. Lots of big, steep hills that required lower gears and slower speeds.
We finally pulled into Phoenix to 86 degrees and overcast skies – beautiful weather here! Everything is in full bloom and it’s georgeous. I can’t wait for Cindy to be here tonight!
I have the great chance to spend some time with one of the most amazing and creative men in the art of magic, Andre Kole. We are always working on a project together and enjoy the challenges of creating “magic.” He and his wife are also very special friends to Cindy and I and we cherish the time that we have to spend with them.
Cindy arrives TONIGHT! I can’t wait to see her and I’m sure Carter will be excited too!
After Phoenix, we’re off to Prescott for a television appearance on Friday morning and a show on Friday night. Come see us!
