One of the most difficult things about touring is living on the road. When you spend 300 nights a year in a hotel room, that “space” becomes your home for the evening. You crash in your hotel room to get rest. It is your place of rejuvenation, relaxation – a respite from the stage and the trials of the road. Most people will never understand just how important a quiet hotel room is to our overall well-being.

Which brings me to the real point of this entry in my blog. Last night was one of those nights – “civilians” checked into the hotel. It never ceases to amaze me how people who rent a single room in a hotel think that gives them the right to infringe on others by allowing their children to scream and run through the hallways. They don’t even pretend to try and control them. What they need to remember is the hotel is NOT their living room. It’s NOT their house. It’s NOT their property and there are others, many others, in this place who are trying to get some rest. Staying in a hotel room is NOT a vacation for many business travelers across the country. And when adults refuse to control their children, they demonstrate very clearly that they don’t really want the responsibility of bringing up thoughtful, respectful adults. And then they wonder what happens to these “fine little children” when they become teenagers and young adutls, perhaps they should consider their own personal failure in instilling the kind of good character qualities in their children when they were young.

It was a very rough night last night because grown people were rude and stupid.
