We spent the last few days in Tullahoma, TN. The show was Tuesday night but on Monday I did a workshop for some special students from the area schools. These workshops are such an important aspect of what we do “on the road” and it gives me an opportunity to share my talents in a completely different way. This group was very talented and almost everyone made their way to the stage to perform for their peers – applause, cheers, and smiles for all of them.
The South Jackson Civic Center is an historic building in Tullahoma, some parts of it dating back to 1886. When we arrived, one of the local drama classes was there to load us in.
There isn’t a “dock” here so all of the equipment had to come up ramps and then onto the stage. It makes load in a bit longer but we had lots of hands to help us out. And the big sign in the front definitely let the community know we were there!
Once the equipment was in, the stage became very small! I sometimes forget how much stuff we have with us on the road. Cindy was busy finding a place for all of it to live during the day AND during the show! At least Cindy and Nolan were in a good mood!
We had a great audience for the show. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time and I heard lots of positive, puzzling comments afterwards. The South Jackson Civic Association was very hospitable and gave us our first “home-cooked” meal in several weeks (thanks Anita)!
It was a much longer load out because our crew seemed to “disappear” after the show leaving only our guys and 2 or 3 of their people to move several tons of equipment back onto the truck. We all slept well that night!
