I was up fairly early this morning hoping that the weather was going to hold. I had dropped off the trailer last night after the show to have a guy check out the axles. We have been throwing some grease from one of the tires and I wanted to make sure all the bearings were good. They checked everything out early. I hooked up to the trailer, called David and asked him to get everyone ready to go. I had planned on heading out around 10am but, since he finished early, we could get out fast and try to beat the weather.

We left Raton and it had just begun to snow. The roads were still clear but it wasn’t going to take long for them to get bad. We needed to get out fast! We weren’t too far outside of town before the snow started coming down much harder…and the road became worse. We started to wonder if we had made the right decision.

The roads became treacherous between Raton and Las Vegas, NM. It’s about a 100 mile drive and, in many places, you could barely see the road. Once we arrived in Las Vegas, the snow tapered off. We left Interstate 25 and got onto Highway 84 toward Santa Rosa – a much quicker route to Clovis. These roads were in very good condition and only a few snow showers along the way.

We picked up Interstate 40 for a few miles and that’s when the second part of our adventure began – WIND! Major wind gusts and sustained winds of 35-40mph slammed against the trailer. It would take all my strength to keep the rig on the road…and once we pulled off the interstate and back onto Highway 84 for the final 90 miles into Clovis, it seemed as though the winds only got stronger!

Now that we’re here, we are under both a snow advisory AND tornado warnings. That’s an interesting weather combination. The good news, however, is that tomorrow it will be 60 degrees! We’re hoping for a good show tomorrow night.
