The Shuler Theatre is a beautiful venue in downtown Raton, NM. We were here many years ago but it’s gone through some renovations since that time. It is a small space and they were aware that we would have to customize a show for them. Cindy figured out how it was all going to come together and then David and their crew got the cases in and on stage.
We were able to get up some of the intelligent lighting and Keith quickly patched the board to our channels so we could write cues easily. Everything seemed to go up quickly and the day moved steadily at an good pace. Before we knew it, it was 3:30pm and we were all set up!
We were almost sold out here as well. It’s always exciting when the staff of the theatre is enthusiastic about the crowd. And the crowd was enthusiastic! Audible responses from an audience help feed the energy of a performer and these guys tonight were very responsive. We did have one slightly intoxicated and overly zealous fan at the show whose responses could be huge a few decibels above everyone else BUT they added a completely new dimension to the show!
The weather is supposed to take a HUGE change tonight – more snow on the way. We thought about driving after the show tonight but I’m going to have a mechanic check out the axles on the trailer first thing in the morning. One of them looks like it’s been throwing grease so I just want to make sure that everything is well. We still have another month on the road. I don’t want any breakdowns along the way!
We hope the weather holds off until we can get that repair done and then we’ll head toward Clovis, NM – about five hours down the road in good weather. With a foot of snow coming our way, I’m sure it’ll take a bit longer. We just hope we don’t get snowed in!
