We were up very early this morning after a relatively late night last night. We didn’t get much sleep! We had to be in Alamogordo by 12:30pm so could get over to the Flickinger Center for the Arts for a very special workshop with a very special group of people. We will perform here tomorrow night and, as of 1pm today, we were close to being sold out with only a handful of tickets remaining.
One of the things I enjoy most when touring are these workshops – teaching simple magic tricks to individuals who can benefit most from the uniqueness of this art. Today was no exception – and this group of 30 had a great time (and so did I). Everyone in the group had some physical or mental challenge with which they are dealing. So learning and performing magic is a great way to not only bring them some fun and joy by giving them the opportunity to perform “on stage” for their peers BUT it can also help them with dexterity, motor skills, and communication. You can read more information on the Healing of Magic website.
We had a room full of exuberant people who just couldn’t wait to perform on stage! And the applause they received really made them smile!
Once the workshop was over, Cindy and I drove around Alamogordo to find a few things for the show tomorrow night. When we got back to the hotel to hook up the trailer, Cindy discovered that the ball hitch was very LOOSE – that’s not a good thing!! It was 5pm on a Friday – finding someone to fix it was going to be a challenge. The great thing about a small town is that everyone knows everyone else. I stopped by a tire place. The guy there looked and it and said it needed to be welded directing me to Ed down the street (but Ed was closed). So I stopped by a transmission repair shop and he sent me across the street to see Mike at the motorcycle place. Mike couldn’t weld it due to its size BUT he sent me to Russell behind him. I stopped by Russell’s place and he did weld it! Fixed on a Friday night AFTER 5pm!
We’re going to get some rest now…and prepare for a sold out show on Saturday night!
