It was a hard trip out this last time – long and through all kinds of terrain. That’s hard, not just on us, but on the truck as well. We’ve been having a fairly significant oil leak since about the 3rd week out. The last couple of weeks, it got really bad! And then there were some issues with the steering linkage and the trailer brakes. The first stop on Monday was off to see Tommy, our truck mechanic. I called him last week to give him a heads up that the truck would need some attention so he was prepared.
He called today. Turns out the oil leak wasn’t as major as I thought it would be – a couple of oil lines were leaking. He replaced them – easy fix. The bigger issue was the trailer brakes! When we talked, he said that all six wheels – three axles – were in bad shape. The brake pads and shoes were practically bare and the brake mechanism in one wheel had completely disintegrated. Perhaps that was what cause that “pulling” everytime I put on the brakes the last few days?
He had the parts overnighted so he would have them on Wednesday. He’ll be able to get it all fixed up before we leave for Dover, DE (The Schwartz Center for the Arts) on Friday morning.
I have an interview in the morning with one of the local Dover newspapers. There is an article in one of the area papers on Wednesday. The other paper will do a feature on Friday. Tickets have sold well for this show so I hope it just gets everyone excited about coming to the event!
We’re all working very hard in the office trying to get things done…and I’m trying to pull things together for the upcoming trip to Singapore at the end of the month. Never a dull moment…
