So, the saga continues. After putting the new engine in the truck, we find that it’s some sort of “oil check valve” that needs to be replaced. Good news is that it’s covered by the warranty. Bad news is it won’t be done until Tuesday! We were scheduled to open in Thomaston, GA to a full house on Friday night. We rented a truck and an SUV so we could transfer the equipment and hit the road. That turned into an entirely new fiasco!
First, I had to find an SUV in Lynchburg that we could take out on this trip. Second, I had to find a reliable truck to haul the equipment – reliable being the key word, not a U-Haul. Once found, we had to add the rental company to our commercial insurance policy (which took 1 1/2 hours) and while Keith and Nolan went and picked up the SUV. Cindy had to go to our truck (which is our home on the road) and transfer some of our “essentials” from the truck to the Jeep so they could be transferred to the SUV (are you tired yet?).
I drove the rental truck over to our trailer to meet Keith and Nolan and begin the equipment transfer while Cindy packed the SUV with all the luggage and other items. We have tons of equipment – some of it extremely heavy. On one of the larger pieces, Nolan crushed the knuckle of his hand – bleeding all over everything. We got that under control and were down to the final couple of pieces. We have this HUGE case that’s very heavy and awkward. Nolan and I moved it into the truck and, just as I turned my back, I heard it fall and Nolan yell! It landed on his big toe which landed him in the emergency room!
After a few stitches, he was on his way. The folks in Georgia have rescheduled the show for Sunday afternoon, 2:30pm. That gives us Friday and Saturday to travel. THEN we have to haul out of there to get to Key West because we open in the Keys on Tuesday night!!
